National Palace Museum (in simplified Chinese 故宫博物院) is a museum that was built basing on the collections in the Ming and Qing dynasty. It is also one of the most comprehensive museums in China. It is located in the center of Beijing, behind the Tiananmen Square and in front of the Jingshan Hill. In 1961, the State Council approved the National Palace Museum as the first batch of key cultural units to be protected. In 1987, the Palace Museum was listed by UNESCO in the “World Heritage” list.

In accordance with the doctrine of the ancient Chinese astrology, Ziwei Sadakazu (that is, the North Star) is located in the middle of the sky, and was regarded as where the Emperor should be located. Therefore, it has become the palace of the Emperor which was also known as the Forbidden City. Ming emperor, Zhu Di won the place as the Emperor, and decided to move the capital to Beijing, which began the creation of the palace, and in the Ming Yongle eighteen years (in 1420) the City’s construction was completed. In 1911, a revolution overthrew the last feudal monarchy in China – Qing Dynasty, Pu Yi in 1924 were driven out of Dili’s palace. In this before and after the 500-odd years, a total of 24 emperors lived and ruled in the City.

Over the last decade, the National Palace Museum received an annual average of 600-800 million Chinese and foreign audiences, but, with the development of tourism, we can see people’s increasing interest to focus on the Forbidden City and therefore we expect to see an increasing number of viewers.

There are actually a lot of people loving to visit ancient Palace. Actually, just like visiting the Pyramids in Egypt, you would not expect to see a lot of advanced technology. However, the ancient people’s wisdom is all at a high level. Therefore, you should always try to visit this museum when you have a chance to visit Beijing or otherwise, you would surely miss a very unforgettable experience.

In October 1983, Xidan in Xicheng District on a street view planning and transformation started the development of industrial layout planning of the street. In October 1990, it completed the building of Warwick. On January 15, 1991, Xidan Shopping Center was put under business test. That same year, Beijing has in principle the setup of the North Xidan Street, the west side of the planning program (referred to as “the West Project”), and the Xidan southeast rehabilitation programs was initiated.

In recent years, Xidan in Xicheng District insisted the usage of areas outside the commercial environment for reform and improvement (West Liang works), and it has withdrawn close to a hundred stalls scattered and ads regulation were adopted to restrict the light box, showcase, enhanced lighting effects at night. There is also repairing of the street trees by the laying of the walking Street, Jamaica Road, renovation of the transformation of the road.

Xidan commercial street construction insists to grade transformation and development of many, many formats, with obvious characteristics of a combination of modern business services. There are projects of the Capital Times Square, Bank of China Tower, Xidan Cultural Square and other projects being built and put into use, creating the formation of large commercial facilities, new culture, science and technology consulting, emerging industries, such as an intermediary agent, making it the internationally advanced level with shopping, restaurants, entertainment, good service, clean office, civilization.

Jingshan Park (in simplified Chinese景山公园) is located in the western part of Beijing from City Palace Museum, and it is a beautiful imperial garden environment.

Most of the city of the Yuan Dynasty is quite ugly because Yuan government didn’t encourage the construction of beautiful spots. Thus, the park is 88.7 meters above sea level. During Ming Yongle years (in 1416) it was removed for the palace construction. After that, people found that the soil of the mountain was quite fertile and called it the Long Live Mountain. During Qing Dynasty, Emperor Shunzhi years renamed it as Jingshan.

At Jingshan south gate tower, there is Ying Qi, dedicated the memorial tablets of Confucius. Mountain King Hall of the North there is very beautiful and it is dedicated to the images of the Qing royal family and ancestors. There is another German Hall which is the place in the Qing Dynasty Empress that it is built in fourteen years of Qianlong (1749). Jingshan has 5 peaks, and things are arranged in the summit to build a very neat and great view. The Park is very magnificent and when you arrive at the top of the mountain, you would surely scream because the views are really so attractive that you have never seen before.

There are quite a number of attractions in this park, and one of the most important ones must be Yee-tower.

To enter the park gate, door Ying Qi tower is standing at this Yee-tower and on both sides of the gate there is a group of cottage building. It was “old news the next filial” containing the theme of “door-to-door around the North, North to the long veranda of the fifty-ying, and the West for the Education Department to study the internal affairs department and with children reading.” In this park, it is the place where students would use to worship the Confucius.

This is really a very interesting and beautiful park, if you would like to know more, you could try to visit this park.

Zhongnanhai (in simplified Chinese中南海) is located at Xicheng District. It was the open sea in the Jin and Yuan Dynasty and later it was turned to South China Sea in the early Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and it was collectively known as Court ban.

The main building of the Zhongnanhai includes Shuiyun pavilion and there is a sentence in the middle of the pavilion written as “The autumn wind is too fluid,” and the monument is for “Yanjing Eight”. In addition there is Ziguangge, such as banana garden. Yingtai has main features for the South China Sea (Zhongnanhai) and there are Luan Xiang Ge, Dian-yuan Han, Dian-Xiang Habitat (the Penglai Pavilion), Ying-ting, and smoked building. There are also a lot of flowers, rocks, pavilions and some flowers live over the water, which are beautiful and pleasant. The Zhongnanhai has some gardens, the Huairen Hall and other halls in the building sea. In the early years of the Republic has established the Office of the President here.

After the founding of People’s Republic of China, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De and other party and state leaders have to live here, and this is also the office for the Communist Party of China Central Committee. Now it is one of the national key units to be protected.

Zhongnanhai is really very meaningful in terms of Chinese’s modern history. It is one of the headquarters of the Chinese government and there are a lot of special designs in this Zhongnanhai in order to facilitate the work of the Chinese leaders.

Of course, as mentioned above, the Zhongnanhai is one of the most important sites in Beijing in terms of political affairs, you might not be allowed to enter this place easily. However, if you are visiting Beijing and you would like to have a closer look at the Zhongnanhai, you could still try to stop at a distance from it and see how the office of Chinese leaders look like.

Fragrant Hills Park (in simplified Chinese 香山公园) is located in the suburbs of Beijing Xishan, in Beijing’s northwest, 28 kilometers downtown area. The total area of the park was 160 hectares, and it is a forest park with long history and rich natural taste.

Xiangshan Park has beautiful natural scenery, especially the Xiangshan red leaves which are very well-known. Every autumn frost, the leaves would be all over the mountain and the view was very magnificent. At this point, visitors, tourists sitting in the cable car climbing, could have the view of the leaves all over the hill, and it is a rare treat. The important cultural relics and scenic spots brief introduction as follows:

Orient House Park is located at the main entrance door, by the Qianlong emperor, when the expansion of Providence Park was built and is still preserved the original shape. There are a lot of sections in the Park and different sections serve as different functions. For example, there is a park in the Park for the emperor to handle the nation’s matter and there is a park for the officers to discuss the matters and wait for the policies from the Emperor. There was also a big library for the Emperor and officers to study the materials of the past dynasty. All these are similar to that in the Palace, right? That’s the point.

Actually, the emperor thought that having a relax time in the Park was very great. However, on the other hand, he should not totally ignore the people in the nation. He should not just spend all the time playing and not handling the national matters. Therefore, some sections were set up for the Emperor to work in case there is something emergent happened that needed the emperor’s decision to solve the problem.

The Park is really very attractive and it is surely worthwhile for you to visit there if you have a chance to go to Beijing. It is not as famous as the Palace or the Great Wall, but it is gigantic and wonderful.

Sun Yat-sen’s Residence (in simplified Chinese 孙中山行宫) is located in 23 Zhang Road. In the Ming dynasty it was actually the home of the emperor Chongzhen’s wife, called Spring Garden. This land was later been used by the late Qing Dynasty as a park. During early years of the Republic it was the chief diplomatic residential Wellington Koo.

Sun Yat-sen, after discussing with his family in 1924, decided to live in this place. He also used this place as an office for handling the affairs of the state. On March 12, 1925, Sun Yat-sen died in the bedroom in this residence, three days after the transfer of Hope Temple in Xiangshan. Here it is one of the key units to be protected in Beijing.

As mentioned above, Father of modern China, Mr. Sun, died in this residence. Therefore, in history of China, it is at a quite important position. If you would like to know more about Chinese history and you would like to know about the life of Mr. Sun in the past, you should try to visit this residence.

There is no doubt that Mr. Sun had quite a number of residences in China. However, as mentioned above, this residence is the place where he left the world. Therefore, it would be quite different from the other residences in meaning.

If you would like to experience the life of the previous Chinese leader, and understand more about how he made decisions that affects the whole world, you could try to visit this residence and you would be able to see a lot of things used by Mr. Sun and also the simple building structure. You would know more about the life of people in that period and probably get to know about how China grew from a poor country to a rich one like now.

Of course, when visiting this residence, the view you see might not be very attractive or beautiful, but simple and meaningful.
